One hundred years ago, on November 11, when news of the armistice broke, churches around the world and in Canada began ringing their bells to mark the end of the Great War. This Remembrance Day, 100 years later, churches across the country, from St.John’s, N.L. to Vancouver Island, B.C., will ring their bells to commemorate that historic act. Each church will ring their bells 100 times starting at sundown, to honour the more than 66,000 Canadians who lost their lives, the 172,000 wounded and those who survived. In Richmond Hill, Our Lady Queen of the World Parish and St. Mary’s Anglican Church will be ringing their bells as part of the Bells of Peace initiative.
