This time of year, who doesn’t love a good ghost story? Richmond Hill has its share of tales, especially in the historic downtown area where sightings of apparitions and mysterious smells of flowers, cigar and pipe smoke have been reported. One well-known haunted spot, Oak Manor, is an old farmhouse that stands at Yonge St. and Stouffville Sideroad. According to John Robert Colombo’s Mysteries of Ontario, the spirits who reside there are Edith Legge and her son Homer. For many years, the building was home to Mr.Legge’s Ice Cream and Dessert Parlour. Over the years, reports have surfaced of hearing footsteps, keys jingling, seeing pictures flying off walls and strangest of all, a man running across the room and vanishing into a wall. Happy Hallowe’en!
